HANYEONGSEOK INSTITUTE
Nuruk Master Han Youngseok ferments yakju using centuries-old techniques, crafting a beverage once reserved for Korea's scholars and elite. His signature makkoli, Cheongmyeongju, named after the clear skies of early April, features a crystal clear yakju with sweet, fruity, and floral notes, adhering to a traditional 100-day fermentation process with a unique Nuruk blend.
HWAYANG BREWERY
Nestled in a charming village, Hwayang Brewery is a sought-after distillery run by a dedicated husband and wife team. Renowned for handcrafting their unique nuruk, Huang On Gok, their acclaimed Pungjeong Sagye makgeolli, featuring the light and refreshing Spring Yakju and the full-bodied Autumn Takju, has been enjoyed by US Presidents and discerning drinkers alike.
J&J
South of the capital city in Gyeonggi-do lies J&J Brewery, owned by Julia and Joohwi, who helm their small-batch distillery with a passion for both artistry and precision. A striking hot-pink copper distiller is the head-turning centerpiece of their open-concept brewery, its bold color sparked by the
alchemy of their soju distillation.
ELLYEOP PYUNJOO
Ellyeop Pyunjoo needs no introuction in the makkoli scene. Handed down 14 generations origination from the Joseon dynasty, the brewery was founded by scholar, philosopher Yi-ik. Sitting a top hilly terrains surrounded by forest and a river gorge, the makkoli they hand-produce exist on a different level. Ellyeop Pyunjoo is also known for being Incredibly difficult to procure due to its limited quantity and popularity.
